I'm struggling at my job. Stepping in mid year in a Pre-K 3 class is definitely challenging. The kids never had a set routine and many excuses have been made as to why. So I'm working on inforcing a few new things as time goes by. I'll admit the kids drove me crazy Thursday and yes... I cried. I went to my grade level principal and talked to her and told her how frustrated I am and that I want to move up to a higher grade that I know is available.
I received a clear no. No because others have asked to move up and they said no so it wouldn't be fair. :( :(
BUT then she suggested a book for me to read and while book shopping I found another book that I'm going to use as help management wise.
The first book is what my grade level principal suggested, Love and Logic for Early Childhood: Practical Parenting from Birth to Six Years. I've heard about the Love and Logic method but haven't really looked into it but she said it would really help me. So I'm going to read as much as I can this weekend and start working on it next week.
The second book I picked up is Positive Discipline for Preschoolers. I actually have one other book from this series called Positive Discipline from A-Z which has been a MAJOR help. However I picked up this one because it is specifically for the age group that I'm working with and might provide more insight than the other. I love this series because the authors are very clear with what they mean and provide several scenarios. Will it work? I HOPE so.
As for the rest of this weekend I will be spending most of it with my Cricut cutting machine creating things for the classroom to help the management plan be easy to follow up on.
I pray it works.
